Welcome haunters! Every week we share a look behind one home haunter’s inspirational build and how it came together.
Let’s dig into this week’s build!
Elizabeth is a Disabled Veteran and stay-at-home mom. She spent 15 years in the Army where she met her husband Marc who’s still on Active duty, so the family gets to travel the United States on what they like to call adventures.
Their son, also a Halloween fanatic, is six and is basically Elizabeth’s driving force to set up for Halloween every year just to see his smile with each new DIY or prop they set up.
Her daughter who’s eight is quite the opposite though and is absolutely terrified of spooky Halloween decorations. Elizabeth says that’s why they do what they call a “PG display” with all the spooky decorations at easy reach for quick turn-offs.
This particular build was the result of a gift from her husband that as she puts it “needed something to go with him.” And so the bridge over an endless pit was born!
Inside Elizabeth’s Build

Build Details:
She started with two college mirrors from Walmart and framed them with 1x4s. Then, found the fake rock tile at the dollar tree and gorilla glued to the inside of those frames.
Next, she used liquid nails to attach the frames to the mirrors which are placed on each side of the bridge to form the “pit.”
Plexiglass from Home Depot gets traced out using the frames and then cut to size. This is where the window film is applied and acts like a two-way mirror.
With the film side down on top of your framed-in mirrors and your light source added, in her case just simple blow mold lights found on Amazon, you’re left with the infinity look.
For the bridge, she mainly used three 2x6s cut in a curve. She measured a little longer than the mirrors found the middle and used the string technique. She then used 1x4s to lay on top of the curved effect.
Q&A
What sites, people, etc. helped as you tackled this?
I watched a combination of YouTube videos and searched Google for “endless pit diy.” I also googled “DIY garden bridge” to make the walk-over bridge.
What inspired the build?
The main reason I wanted to do this project is because I haven't really seen one built on the DIY pages and I know I could do it. Plus my husband Marc gifted me the Home Depot Goblin and he needed something to go with him. And the bridge was perfect.
We received a lot of compliments from parents as their kids were mesmerized by the effect it had. And the wonder of how I did that.
Where do you go for general inspiration?
The Halloween DIY group is by far one of the best groups on Facebook. So many helpful haunters and eager builders, to help with any questions you'll have. I'm just a little yard haunt compared to what some of them make. My walk over bottomless pit, really made me feel spooktacular! 😂
